Distinctive hand style lettering is an essential skill for artists and designers. Deftly executed hand crafted letter forms are a nearly forgotten art in an age of endless free fonts. Graffiti is one of the last reservoirs of highly refined, well practiced penmanship.

The most reviled and persecuted form of Graffiti, the Tag, is seldom appreciated for the raw beauty of its skeletal letter forms. Most tags are removed immediately, and thus the casual viewer seldom has a chance to discern the difference between entry level and advanced hand styles.

About the Author:
Christian Acker received a BFA with honors in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design in New York City in May of 2002.
He founded Adnauseum, Inc in 2002, and Handselecta Type Foundry in 2003. Adnauseum is an NYC-based experimental design studio, whose work runs the gamut of Photographic to Typographic. He occasionally guest lectures typography and design classes at his Alma Mater, Parsons School of Design.

He is a member of both the AIGA and the Type Directors Club.

Me perguntam porque fazem isso. Acredito que seja só por pura diversão.
Sim, "alterar" o patrimônio público e privado para uns é muito divertido. São fases da vida...

Todos os dia muitas coisas acontecem. Boas e ruins.
Para alguns não ficarem loucos as vezes precisam extravasar de alguma forma. Formas que parece afirmar que já estão loucos.
Uns matam, outros roubam, outros batem nos indefesos... Tem louco pra tudo.

Essas formas me parecem de uma estúpides sem tamanho mas também não sou santo. Quem é?
Sou incapaz de de fazer mau a uma mosca mas confesso que simpatizo é muito com aqueles que "alteram propriedades alheias apenas pelo prazer".
Ainda mais quando se utilizam da arte como forma de vandalismo.

A trilha desse vídeo me intrigou.
Odeio Kanye West e Jay Z já foi bom, hoje é só business.
O clip original desta música é um lixo e a letra pior ainda mas não posso negar que ela deu um "climinha loko" pra essa ação.

Até a "dancinha" abaixo ficou mais loka que o clip original. As cordas parecem um pixo!

2012 é o ano em que Gilberto Gil completou 70 anos de vida e 50 de carreira. E, para homenageá-lo, o Itaú Cultural organizou a exposição GIL70, que fica aberta a partir do dia 12 de dezembro lá na Avenida Paulista. A exposição, concebida e organizada pelo poeta e designer gráfico André Vallias e com a colaboração do pesquisador e ensaísta Frederico Coelho na curadoria, apresenta 23 trabalhos de artistas como Omar Salomão, Carlos Nader, Arnaldo Antunes, Adriana Calcanhoto e Caetano Veloso.
O Projeto Quixote também foi convidado a participar desta homenagem a Gilberto Gil através de um belíssimo mural realizado na parede externa do Itaú Cultural. O mural ilustra a música Raça Humana de Gilberto Gil onde o pintor/escultor Alex Hornest conduziu esta experiência com os jovens da Agência Quixote Spray Arte que puderam desenvolver em uma oficina de 3 dias um layout para o mural e em mais 3 dias executar a pintura.

São ao todo 23 trabalhos apresentados em diferentes linguagens e suportes, como pintura, vídeo, fotografia, escultura e instalação, todos inspirados nas canções de Gil ou dedicados a ele. Vallias e Coelho comentam que GIL70 “convocou um conjunto eclético de artistas que entrelaçam gerações, linguagens, suportes e áreas de atuação da mesma forma que a obra de Gil entrelaça temas, ideias e sensibilidades”.

Entre os artistas que realizaram obras para a mostra estão nomes como Omar Salomão, Carlos Nader e Arnaldo Antunes. A explosão de corações na instalação de Adriana Calcanhoto dá dica sobre a música que inspirou a cantora, “Corações a Mil”, composta por Gil na década de 1970 para o filme de Tom Job Azulay. Já Caetano Veloso dedica a Gil o poema-instalação “Gilberto Misterioso”, assim como Augusto de Campos que homenageia o cantor baiano com o poema visual “Tristes Tópicos”.

Além das obras, a exposição conta com uma grande linha do tempo, ilustrada com imagens, áudios e vídeos, que revelam um pouco da vida pessoal de Gil, e faz um contraponto com sua trajetória profissional acompanhada pelos acontecimentos importantes de cada momento histórico que refletem fortemente na obra do cantor baiano.

A exposição teve sua primeira montagem no Centro Cultural Correios, no Rio de Janeiro, e agora poderá ser visitada pelo público paulista. A mostra também conta com um site (www.gil70.com.br) que reúne materiais extras sobre Gilberto Gil, manifestos, artigos e depoimentos que revelam um pouco mais sobre a vida e obra do ex-ministro da Cultura.

Waris Dirie _ Model

Waris Dirie (Somali: Waris Diiriye, Arabic: واريس ديري‎) (born in 1965) is an Austrian model, author, actress and human rights activist of Somali origin.

Early years
Waris was born into a nomadic family in 1965 in Galkayo, Somalia. At the age of thirteen, she fled to Mogadishu in order to escape an arranged marriage to a much older man. There, she briefly lived with an older sister and her family. Waris along with a few relatives later moved to London, where she resided with and worked for an uncle who had been appointed Somali ambassador. When his term in office ended, Waris remained in the city and held a job at a local McDonald's. She also began evening classes to learn English.

Career
By chance, Waris was discovered by photographer Terence Donovan, who helped secure for her the cover of the 1987 Pirelli Calendar. From there, her modeling career took off, appearing in advertisements for top designers such as Chanel, Levi's, L'Oréal and Revlon.
In 1987, Waris played a minor role in the James Bond movie The Living Daylights. She also appeared on the runways of London, Milan, Paris and New York City, and in fashion magazines such as Elle, Glamour and Vogue. This was followed in 1995 by a BBC documentary entitled A Nomad in New York about her modeling career.
In 1997, at the height of her modeling career, Waris spoke for the first time with Laura Ziv of the women's magazine Marie Claire about the female genital mutilation (FGM) that she had undergone as a child, an interview which received worldwide media coverage. That same year, Waris became a UN ambassador for the abolition of FGM. She later paid her mother a visit in her native Somalia.
In 1998, Waris authored her first book, Desert Flower, an autobiography which went on to become an international bestseller.
She later released other successful books including Desert Dawn, Letter To My Mother, and Desert Children, the latter of which was launched in tandem with a European campaign against FGM.
In 2009, a feature-length film based on Waris' book Desert Flower was released, with the Ethiopian supermodel Liya Kebede playing her.
The movie has so far been released in 20 countries including France, Spain, Israel, Greece, Poland and Brazil. In January 2010, it won the Bavarian Film Awards in Munich in the Best Movie category.
It was also nominated for a Film Award in Gold in the Outstanding Feature Film category at the German Film Awards, and won the Audience Award in the Best European Film category at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
In 2010, Waris was appointed Peace Ambassador for the Year of Peace and Security by the African Union.

The controversial tradition at the heart of African culture has now reached the shores of Europe.
Today, over 500 British girls are estimated to have undergone the procedure of female genital cutting.

Many young girls would get excited at the prospect of going on holiday but Jamelia knew that the plane she boarded was taking her to be 'circumcised'. Jamelia was cut in an empty mansion by an old woman, strangers held her down and a clean razor was only used when more money exchanged hands. "I remember the blood everywhere", Jamelia says, "one of the maids actually saw her pick up the bit of flesh they cut out." Miriam's womb was accidentally sealed when she was cut and now she cannot have children. "It will stay with me until the day I die." Now, the NHS confirms that cutters are flown over to the UK to cut girls in batches - a cheap alternative. The UK has more girls at risk of bring cut than any other European country and as yet no-one has been prosecuted for the crime.
